The good news is that a large percentage of the visitor attractions are free. All are easily accessible using the capitals famous Tube network. So there is no better time to check out London holiday deals. Many of London’s impressive houses now contain some famous works of art and other cultural artefacts.

Most people have heard of London’s famous museums such as The British Museum and the Victoria and Albert, but not many realise that they are free. Along with The Imperial War Museum, the National History, Science Museum and the National Maritime Museum they charge no entrance fee to view their many treasures. There are many smaller museums, not so widely known, that charge no admission and well worth a visit. The Hunterian Museum, housed in the headquarters of the Royal College of Surgeons, has over 3,000 animal and human specimens prepared by John Hunter (1728-1793). It also houses paintings by William Hodges and George Stubbs. The work of Joseph Lister, the father of antiseptic surgery, is told here in an informative display.

London has a wealth of art displayed in galleries around the capital. So check out cheap holiday deals in London and be astounded at the diversity of art available to view gratis. The prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art, near to Charing Cross tube, is a must see. This intimate gallery has an impressive range of art from Old Masters right through to Post Impressionism. The entrance fee is usually £5, but on Mondays (except bank holidays) from 10am until 2pm is absolutely free. Another art treasure house is to be found at Kenwood House. Here there is a permanent collection of work by Botticelli, Frans Hals and Vermeer. There is also a Rembrandt self-portrait. Kenwood House is a magnificent neo classical villa designed by Robert Adam and is near Hampstead Heath tube station.

The National Theatre on the South Bank often has free exhibitions in the foyers and free live music before performances. It also hosts a lot of free outdoor events in the summer. It’s worth checking local press for details. Another theatre, The Scoop Theatre, is an outdoor sunken amphitheatre with seating for 800 people. During the summer it hosts a range of free events from free films, free music and free theatre. The nearest tube is Tower Hill. Whilst on the subject of free music, many London pubs have bands playing for free and London churches have free lunchtime recitals.

There are many famous cathedrals and churches in the City that are well worth a visit to see their wonderful architecture, statues, stained glass and monuments. Many of the famous cathedrals like St Pauls do charge an entrance fee but are a great addition to your holiday deals. However, Southwark Cathedral is completely free. There has been a church here for over a thousand years and the cathedral is the oldest building in Southwark. Interestingly, Shakespeare’s brother Edmund is buried here. Tourists now flock to the Temple Church located between Fleet Street and The Thames. This 12th century church was made famous by Dan Brown in his best-selling book ‘The Da Vinci Code’. This round building was the church of the Knights Templar and secret initiation ceremonies were performed in in the crypt. There are 13th century effigies of the Knights Templar in the nave.
